The History of Pizzo & Associates, Ltd.
In 1988, Jack Pizzo began Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. in the Roscoe Village neighborhood of his Chicago home. The company was originally created to provide landscape, design-build, and maintenance services throughout Chicagoland. When he moved to the western suburb of Cicero in 1989, the company quickly grew and expanded its operations to focus on naturalized landscapes, ecological restorations, and land stewardship.
Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. soon began growing native plants for their own installations which evolved into its own entity, Pizzo Native Plant Nursery LLC. In 1999, the company moved onto 40 acres of land in Leland, IL; This is their current location to this day. Jack placed a conservation easement to permanently protect 32.5 acres of this land, which consists of remnant prairie and wetland. Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. uses this property as a laboratory to better understand land restoration, stewardship, and the propagation of native plants. Through years of management and stewardship, it has now become a pleasant oasis for migratory birds and monarch butterflies.
In 2002, Jack purchased 40 acres of wet farmland, built a home, and moved his family to Clare, IL. This land now has a thriving ecosystem complete with monarch butterflies and migratory birds. The monarch butterfly has become a meaningful representation of the company's efforts to bring attention to the loss of habitat among wildlife, so much so that in 2004, they redesigned their logo to include the beloved endangered species. Butterflies go through a complete metamorphosis in 4 stages: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult. The four stages of land restoration include: design, grow, build, and management. These four stages represent the four companies of Pizzo Group.
