The Pizzo Nursery encompasses approximately 90 acres, including production plantings and greenhouse space, and a 32-acre remnant prairie and wetland. This remnant area includes a glacial kame, sedge meadows, and a naturally occurring federally threatened species: the Decurrent False Aster (Boltonia decurrens). It is a hands-on laboratory in which we harvest seeds from their original source. In addition to this area, we have access to and sustainably harvest seed from countless other remnant areas throughout the Midwest. Pizzo propagates over two hundred species of wildflowers and grasses in on-site production plantings and greenhouse space. Our ecologists and crews have everyday, practical experience with native species.
The Pizzo Nursery is your one-stop source for the plant materials and hard materials necessary to install and steward natural areas and natural landscapes. Contact us with your project requirements and we will provide a prompt quotation. Our skilled ecologists will ensure that the species, materials, and methods are site appropriate.
