DeKalb Rain Garden

This project is a small residential rain garden in the heart of DeKalb, IL. Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. provided design services and provided & installed approximately 1300 native plants.
The DeKalb Rain Garden provides a small piece of high quality mother nature in a highly urbanized setting, soon to be home to many of our native birds and butterflies. Although this concept makes a beautiful garden and great wildlife habitat, its real function is to capture, treat, and infiltrate stormwater! All of this homes downspouts have been redirected into the rain garden. This relieves the pressures put on our City stormsewer systems during rain events, alleviates downstream flooding, and recharges our aquifers with clean, cool water. Rain Gardens are extraordinarily effective in filtering water during the low intensity rains that are so common in our Midwestern climate.
