This project at Danada Woods in Naperville, IL, entails the conversion of turf grass to native vegetation in order to stabilize an eroding shoreline. In order to make this project more affordable the installation was distributed over three years. Prior to installation the pond had a low, flat bottom that held six inches of water. Wildwood Nature Center of the Park Ridge Recreation and Park District is the central location for environmental education for the district. In 2001 the site had eroding shorelines, lack of diversity and large flocks of Canada Geese. The decision was made to restore the existing lawn and eroded shoreline to native flowers and grasses. Residents of Harbor Springs, in Aurora, IL, found themselves back in touch with nature following a major restoration of existing wetlands. An oak hickory savanna and wetland at The Madison Club in Burr Ridge, IL, were restored in a subdivision setting. Cattails, reed canary grass and purple loosestrife, invasive species prevalent and established in the targeted area, were removed manually and chemically with low-impact herbicides. Read more →
John Humphrey Woods is a public park owned and operated by the Village of Orland Park, Orland Park, IL. This project involved the restoration of a remnant Oak-Hickory Savanna.
